


Beginners Throwing Course - 6 weeks

Ready to dive into the world of wheel throwing? Over six inspiring weeks, this hands-on course will guide you through the essentials of working on the potter’s wheel. You'll learn how to centre clay, throw basic forms like cylinders and bowls, trim your creations, and glaze them to perfection.
By the end, you’ll have the skills to confidently throw simple shapes on your own—opening the door to further creativity and independent practice. Whether you're a complete beginner or brushing up on basics, this course is the perfect foundation for your pottery journey.

Each student will have their own wheel to work on for the entire duration of the course.
6 WEEK COURSES
7 glazed and fired pots are included in your course fee. Additional pots are £7 each.

Beginners Throwing Course Outline – 6 weeks (one evening per week):
Week 1 –- introduction to centring, compressing, pulling
Introduction to clay and learning how to centre the clay, and then learning compression and basic pulling of walls to create a shallow dish. Make your first cylinder.
Week 2 – centring, compressing, pulling
Continue practicing of the process, students can make pieces with taller walls (i.e bowls).
Week 3 – centring, compressing, pulling
Students to throw and work freely on the wheel with assistance where needed. Continue the practice of wedging, centring, compressing, pulling. Finally make the pieces that you would like to fire and keep now you are more familiar with the process.
Week 4 – free work
Now you know what you are doing it is time to make your best pieces so you can trim them in week 5
Week 5 – Trim your best pots from the ones you made over the last 4 weeks, this is time to tidy them up and shape them and make them look sharp and ready for kiln.
Week 6 - glazing – an introduction to glazes Glaze your pieces using our extensive range of glazes. You can choose your favourite 6 pieces to be fired in our kiln and take home.
All material, tuition, glazing, paints and firings are included.
