Improvers Throwing Course (Vases) - 5 weeks
This course will help you to improve on your basic throwing skills. You will be working to throw taller cylinders, shaping your pots through collaring and bellying out, and trimming down the bases to accentuate the overall shape. If you know how to throw a simple cylinder and have done a beginner's course then this course is for you. You must have completed a beginners course before taking this one. A taster will not suffice.
This course will build on what you have learned in our beginner's throwing course or any wheel beginner's course that you've been on. We will work with you at your level and improve your throwing abilities. You can choose 6 of your best pots to be fired.
6 glazed and fired pots are included in your course fee. Additional pots are £7 each.

Improvers Throwing Course Outline – 5 weeks (one evening per week):
Week 1 – concentrating on straight sided cylinders with even walls
Introduction to clay and playing with the material, learning how to wedge, going over basics of compression and wall pulling. Start working on cylinders.
Week 2 – throwing taller and narrower vessels
Continue practising the process, and start working on upping clay weights.
Week 3 – shaping through collaring in and bellying out
Work on shaping your cylinders and adding curves and necks to turn your cylinder into a vase.
Week 4 – trimming the bases and creating an even foot
Turn and trim your pieces to prepare them for their first fire. Handles will be added at this point.
Week 5 – glazing – an introduction to glazes
Glaze your pieces using our extensive range of glazes, crystal glazes, and oxides. You can choose your favourite 6 pieces to be fired in our kiln and take home.
All material, tuition, glazing, paints and firings are included.
